Sponsored by the department of oral and maxillofacial and head and neck oncology of Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and undertaken by the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery of the Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the 41st session of the application of microsurgical techniques in oral and maxillofacial reconstruction was successfully held in Chongqing from July 7 to 12.

The course founder is Zhang Chenping, the director at the oral and maxillofacial head and neck cancer department in Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, the professor in Shanghai Jiaotong university, appointed chairman of head and neck tumor committee of China anti-cancer association, executive member in international association of oral oncology, director in head and neck oncology training center of royal college of surgeons, Edinburgh, UK;  director of the international training base for specialized oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

The class leader is Ji Tong, who is the vice director in the oral and maxillofacial head and neck cancer department in Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, the secretary of the Party branch, the professor in Shanghai Jiaotong university, the standing committee in head and neck tumor committee of China anti-cancer association, the deputy chairman of the youth committee, the member of the standing committee of oral and maxillofacial head and neck tumor committee of the Chinese stomatological association, the president in AN/ASIF CMF in China.

This class adheres to the concept of putting theory first and paying attention to practical operation. Abundant teaching modules were set in the 6-day schedule of class running.

July 7^th 

On the first day of the theoretical course, Professor Li Yong gave the opening speech, and Professor Ji Tong introduced the summary of more than twenty years' experience in professional training. The following three excellent professional academic speeches were given by associate professor Ruan Min, professor Li Yong and doctor Yang Rong.

July. 8^th –July.12^th 

The second day was the practice training course, and it was the practice training bridging course on July.8^th . Doctor Yang Rong taught and demonstrated very carefully, and then the students began basic training then. From July 9^th to July 11^th, the live animal model practice course was conducted. Professor Ji Tong, Professor Li Yong, and Dr. Yang Rong personally went on the stage, doing the demonstration operation. All the students benefited a lot. On the last day (12th), professor Ji Tong presided over the assessment of the students. All the students successfully completed the assessment and training of vascular anastomosis and were awarded credit certificates.

This course was held in southwest China for the first time since it was held in 1997. In addition to local trainees in Chongqing, some doctors from district and county central hospitals also participated.

The purpose of the course is to facilitate primary hospitals to learn and carry out microsurgery, improve the medical level of primary hospitals in relatively underdeveloped areas in southwest China, and benefit patients. So far, it has successfully completed 41 sessions of study, which is commendable.
